Vacheron Constantin presents a new masterpiece in the legend of the Chinese zodiac, the Year of the Mouse, the Métiersd’Art Master Series, for watch collectors and fine watch enthusiasts. The rat is a symbol of tenacious vitality and wisdom. It will be the Chinese New Year on January 25, 2020. At that time, ‘the year of the third year is to celebrate the pig’s resignation, and the silent night the rat will return the spring.’ On this occasion, two new works were released in a limited edition of 12 each, showing the outstanding performance of the 2460G4 movement and the endless style of the brand’s art and craftsmanship.
Paper-cutting technology, the intersection of Eastern and Western cultures
Since 1845, Vacheron Constantin has established a special friendship with China. The art of Chinese paper-cutting and the famous Scherenschnitt in Swiss culture have the same meaning. This art craft has also become the highlight of the legendary watch of the Chinese Zodiac legendary masterpieces, engraving masters and enamels. The masters worked together to give the series a new interpretation.
Integration of many arts and crafts
On the gold dial, the decorative patterns of branches and leaves carved by hand engraving techniques are derived from traditional Chinese flower patterns, and the semi-embedded design is used to carefully combine different relief patterns with different depths to create a layered depth effect. The carved plants seem to be suspended above the dial. After that, the production of the big fire enamel was carried out. Only a handful of artisans are familiar with this ancient craft. The enamel master highlights the visual tension of color by covering the dial with several layers of enamel glaze. When enamel is fired in a kiln at 800 to 900 degrees Celsius, the enamel master is required to have a professional inferential ability to strictly control the color of the glaze and the reaction caused by firing. This ability can take several years to fully grasp. The platinum or pink gold zodiac ‘rat’ pattern in the center of the dial is carefully carved by hand.
The movement reserves ample space for artistic creation
The 2460G4 movement leaves a unique and ideal stage for the decorative design of the watch, making the pattern in the center of the dial stand out. The dial has no hands to display the time, and the hour, minute, day of the week and date are displayed through four display windows. The first two displays are sliding and the last two are skipped. This original display was designed and produced by Vacheron Constantin, demonstrating the brand’s outstanding watchmaking skills. Through the transparent sapphire crystal case back on the back of the platinum or pink gold case, you can clearly see the 22K gold skeleton rotor in the movement, which is decorated with the Maltese cross pattern. All parts are finely ground and fully meet the strict requirements of the Geneva Seal. Vacheron Constantin is also the most faithful representative of this certification standard.
